Good evening,
We hope you are well. The purpose of this email is to provide you with some additional details about the beginning of the school year. The first day of school with students will remain as September 8th. For the first week of school only, the plan is to have 50% of students in grades PK-12 come on Tuesday/Thursday (group A) and 50% on Wednesday/Friday (group B). Also, there will be no remote learning for the first week for any grade level. We feel it is important for students and staff to focus on transitioning back to in-person learning and adjusting to the new health and safety requirements.
After the first week, grades 6-12 will begin a hybrid model where 50% of students will attend either on Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday. PreK-5 will follow this same model, without remote learning, until September 25th. Beginning on September 28th, the plan is for PreK-5 to shift to in-person instruction five days per week. The Board of Directors will finalize this plan at a special meeting on August 18th.
Principals recently sent you additional details specific to your school, including the required health and safety protocols. We hope this information helps you make a decision about returning to school in the fall. A survey link was included in your principal's letter for you to select your learning option, as well as whether you will be using school transportation. Please complete this survey by August 17th.
RSU 1 genuinely appreciates the openness of our community to have a transparent and solution-oriented dialogue about the school reopening process. We realize that all of the topics raised are important as families consider their options for the fall. Your input is valuable as we strive to meet the needs of students, families and staff in the safest and most comprehensive manner possible. If you have additional questions, please continue to use the info@rsu1.org email. Please know that each correspondence we receive will be read, considered, and archived daily by district and school administrators. Questions that are family or school-specific will be responded to by principals. Should your query be something that all families will be informed about, we will be updating all community members with additional details as soon as possible. The reopening plan was designed with the ideals of health and safety, flexibility, quality instruction, and sensitivity to family schedules. We are working diligently to ensure that we continue to reflect on these principles as we prepare for a safe return to learning.
