Rachel Ouellette of Morse High School playing a harp

Recently, Morse Senior Rachel Ouellette had three poems published in a compilation of the best poetry by Maine women. Titled Balancing Act 2, this book has received positive reviews and national recognition. Richard Blanco (presidential inaugural poet) described the book as “a unique and important contribution to Maine letters, and a timely one… the stories are rooted in Maine, but universally embrace and imagine multitudes.” Balancing Act has been featured on NPR, Maine Today, and the Portland Press Herald.

According to Rachel’s AP Language Teacher, Brian Stanton, “Rachel works diligently to find just the right way to express herself and share her vision. Her poems, inspired by her varied and voracious reading as well as her skills in observation, reflect a writer mature beyond her years.”
