**HARVEST SUPPER**

We had an excellent turn out for the Harvest Supper. The evening involved a delicious homemade dinner as well as a dessert auction and 50/50 raffle. All proceeds go to support our 8th graders’ trip to Washington, D.C. this spring.

Thank you Woolwich Community, for your amazing support!

8th GRADE WREATH SALES

The holidays are closer than you think, and the 8th graders are selling wreaths! You can purchase a wreath from any 8th grader, or in the office. The 18” finished wreath is adorned with either a red or burgundy bow, and the price is $12.50. Proceeds from the sale help support the class trip to Washington, D.C. in June. Wreath Sales are through Nov. 30, and will be ready for pick up on Monday, December 2nd. Mrs. Fisher will remain after school until 6:00pm for wreath pick up on both Monday 12/2 and Tuesday 12/3. Students will deliver their wreaths to the purchaser unless other arrangements are made. We will also be selling wreaths at the Woolwich Fire Department Auxiliary Craft Fair on Saturday 11/23.

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

Flu season is here.  Many places give the flu shot, and many places are free.  At Woolwich Central we are offering a flu clinic that allows your child to get their flu shot with no parent present.  You MUST contact the nurse and fill out the entire form and return it PRIOR to the day of the clinic.

Do you know that last year 80,000 people died from the flu and that 900,000 hospitalizations (more than double the number for most flu seasons) were directly attributed to the flu?  It is real. It can be far more than the aches, pains, nausea and vomiting that is usually attributed to it. I believe in this immunization, and I will do everything possible to help prevent the illness, using the facts from reputable sources, like the CDC, and the World Health Organization.  Please know that you cannot get the flu from a vaccine shot. If you feel like that has happened to you in the past, it was only your body building antibodies to protect you from the flu; try to imagine how serious the actual flu can be? Come one, come all: bring your friends and neighbors! You do NOT need an appointment. Stop in while you are doing your child’s conference! If you know of someone who has still not been immunized against the flu, please tell them, they are welcome here!

MONDAY NOVEMBER 25, 2019  11:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.

                                           LOST & FOUND

Are you missing a jacket, hat, lunchbox, or a pair of shoes? You’ll find them in the Atrium in the lost and found! Please label your child’s items and we will make every effort to return them. Be sure to check for your items at Parent/Teacher Conferences. All remaining items will be donated to charity in December.

                            SNOW DAYS AND DELAYED STARTS

If during the winter weather roads are not safe, schools will have a delayed start, or be closed for the day. In addition to an automated phone call to each household, notice of this will be made on TV Channels 6, 8 and 13 beginning at 5:30am. School cancellations can also be heard over the following radio stations: WGAN 560 AM, WCLZ 98.9 FM, WPOR 101.9 FM, WJTO 730AM, WMGX 93.1 FM. Please remember that our schools are listed under RSU1, not individual towns. Please be sure we have the correct phone number, so that you will receive all notifications.

LINES FROM THE LIBRARY

It has been a busy first trimester in the WCS library. We have circulated over 5,700 items. Wow...that is a lot of reading! All of our K-5 students participated in Global Read Aloud. Check out the library blog (wcslibrary.blogspot.com) to see how our K-2 students liked the picture books by Yuyi Morales . The 8th grade book club has met to discuss 2 books already this year. And T.A.B (Teen Advisory Board) organized a successful after-school event of board games and homemade ice cream in the library. At this time of year, I give thanks for such a great community of library users!
