A note giving specific reasons for absences from school, signed by a parent or guardian, must be given to the classroom teacher on the day the student returns to school. Legally acceptable excuses are defined as:
Personal illness;
Appointments with health professionals that cannot be made outside of the regular school day;
Observance of recognized religious holidays when the observance is required during a regular school day;
Emergency family situations;
Planned absences for personal or educational purposes that have been approved. Parents should contact the school office when they are planning to take their child out of school for this reason.
Parents are encouraged to call the school between 7:00-8:30 if their child will be absent that day. If the school is not notified, the school office or the child’s teacher may make a phone call to the home to confirm the reason for the absence. Please note: a written excuse is necessary.
Students who are absent are responsible for making arrangements with their teachers for make-up of missed work.
As of January 1st, 2011 we are no longer sending paper copies of the newsletter home with students. Parents who are not receiving the electronic newsletter and would like to should contact Mrs. Pratt at jpratt@rsu1.org. If you would prefer to receive a paper copy, please contact the office to make that request.
School cancellations will be announced on several television channels as well as radio stations. Please visit the Cancellations and Early Dismissals page on our website for more information.

During school hours we try not to interrupt working classrooms. We would be happy to forward you to a teacher's voice mail or you may email your teacher. If you do not have your child's teacher's email address, please call the office. You may also search for any RSU #1 employee under School Staff on this website.
While our preference is for you to send a note to school with your child if they are to do anything other than ride the bus, we certainly understand that last minute events may negate this. Please call our office as soon as you know the change in plans for your child.
Students may walk home from school provided we have a note from the parent or guardian stating they can do so.
Please visit our Food Services page for our school lunch policy, our lunch menu and free or reduced lunch applications.
Each spring we set aside a day for kindergarten screening. If you have a child who will be entering kindergarten in the fall of the following year, please notify our office in Feb or March. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must turn five years old on or before October 15 of the year of entry. If you have any questions or concerns regarding kindergarten registration, feel free to call the office.
Parents may apply to any school within the RSU#1 District. The School Choice Application deadline is around May 1st for the following year of school.
