CELEBRATIONS!

Great things are happening at WCS!

  • Kindergarten just finished their 6-week Go2Science Mission: Maine Islands- looking for artifacts as evidence that Indigenous people may have lived there. Students also learned about Mola Molas, blue sharks, seals, and the scientific process.

  • Second graders just completed a unit called "Animal Adventures," where they began to develop an understanding of the world's animal biodiversity. They explored animal classification and the traits that define each group. Then they focused on habitats and how the surrounding environment affects what organism lives in a particular environment.  Our young scientists ask great questions, access their background knowledge, and make connections between each lesson!

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

Vision and hearing screening are mandatory for grades  Pre-K, K, 1, 3, 5, and 7.  As your school nurse, I feel it is important to have every grade screened, and my rationale is that many students are new to the school and have not been tested for some time. It may well be that when testing was last done the student was absent. So to ensure that each student gets tested I TRY to do each one every year.  With that said, if you do not hear from me, consider the old adage that no news is GOOD news.  I will not contact you unless we need to chat about the results.  If your child has glasses please make sure they are coming to school with them, not just for the testing but for everyday use in the classroom.

On another note, please be sure to send extra masks for your student so if they need a change they have it.  I have seen lots of sore throats this week.  I encourage all students to increase the amount of water they are taking in and to get some extra sleep to help fight off some of these germs that are circulating. ~ Roberta Sherwood, R.N., BSN, M.Ed
