Great things are happening at WCS!
This week we celebrated Eat the Rainbow Week. Students sampled fruits & vegetables and learned about the health benefits that different colors offer. Everyone had a chance to dress in corresponding colors each day. This week is always a favorite and we are so grateful for the support of the PTA, who made it all happen!!
NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN ON ROUTE 1
Beginning Monday 4/18 (the first day of April Vacation) the traffic light at the intersection of Nequasset Road & Route 1 will be on and active. Please make a note of this change as you arrive and depart from school after break.
Temporary Road Closure of the Southern entrance of the George Wright Road
on Thursday, April 28th 2022 at 8am
We were alerted by the town that the southern intersection of the George Wright Road and Route 1, in the town of Woolwich, will be closed to all traffic starting April 28th at 8 am and will continue for the duration of the bridge project on Route 1. Access to Route 1 from the George Wright Road may be gained from the northern intersection of the George Wright Road and Route 1 and from the Nequasset Road intersection with Route 1.
Enjoy your break, you have earned it! Get outside and have some fun. Spring is in the air, and it is wonderful to be outside once again here in Maine. HOWEVER, do remember ticks are out and in full force. I have removed more ticks that were partially embedded in the last 2 weeks than I have in my entire career. Tick prevention includes wearing long pants and socks over the ends of the pant legs, and long sleeves. You cannot be too cautious. Lyme Disease is real, and very painful.
Also with spring in Maine comes allergy season. Please, if your child has seasonal allergies, have them take whatever meds you normally give at home before they come to school. Many truly suffer from this, and if you know they are having problems, give them medication to make their school day easier. You can let me know if their allergies are acting up and you’ve given them something at home to help deal with the symptoms.
Lastly, I have written several times about peanut allergies at school, and have asked that families do not send students to school with peanut butter or PB&J, but I did not mention Nutella. Nutella is made of hazelnuts (a tree nut) and as such, should be included in the list of snack items to leave at home. I know we all want to keep all children safe at school, and by leaving these things at home, you will be doing your part. ~ Roberta Sherwood, R.N., BSN, M.Ed

On Friday the 6th grade put on a pop-up Ancient Civilizations Museum in Mr. Shea’s classroom! Students worked hard at creating artifacts to display. The research and skill that went into creating each object was stunning.

SQUARE 1 ART FUNDRAISER
Square 1 Art fundraiser is happening now! All of the items you may buy will bring money to the WCS Art room, that is why they cost a little more than you would normally pay in a store. We use this money to do some of the extra things, like 2 clay projects in a year, instead of just one. We also save some of this money every year so we can do unexpected things like getting a new kiln when the old one melts down. Thank you so much for all of your support! Here's the cool thing about this company: even if you choose not to buy anything, your child still receives stickers of their very own artwork from the company! Online orders can be placed through Friday, 4/22.
