Great things are happening at WCS!

6th grade has been researching famous historical figures. On Friday, they held a tea party, dressed in costume as the subject of their research. They were then served interesting foods that they may not have tried before (kumquats & beet-ginger juice) while practicing etiquette and sharing what they had learned. Please CLICK HERE to see the fun!

Remember: Screening for next year’s Kindergarten students will be taking place on Thursday, 5/19, and Friday, 5/20. There will be NO SCHOOL FOR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS those two days.

The last day of school is Friday, June 17th. This will be a half-day for students, ending at 12PM. Leading up to the last day of school, we will be eliminating “Late Start Wednesdays,” with the last Late Start happening next Wednesday (5/18.) Starting, on May 25, each Wednesday will start at 8:30AM and end at 3:00PM.

Students in grades 3-8 will be taking the State of Maine math, literacy & science assessments in the coming weeks. As a parent/guardian, you may use the information from the assessments to help support your student at home and engage in a  discussion with your student’s teacher to identify what, if any, additional support may be necessary in school. Teachers use this information, in combination with other forms of local data, to guide their instruction and provide more personalized activities and learning opportunities for students. While no single assessment can give a complete picture of achievement, when combined with other measures, this data provides important information about student progress. When a student does not participate in the state assessment, valuable information is lost.

Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard at our Outdoor Classroom Work Day! Because we were able to complete most of our projects, we will be canceling our May 21st workday!
